TU to probe into dispute in Agriculture Institute
By Our Correspondent ,
KATHMANDU, May 5: Tribhuvan University (TU) has formed a committee to probe into the dispute that arose over the entrance exams at the Institute of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (IAVS), Chitwan.
Following the dispute over whether to allow students of the Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to sit for the entrance examinations for the graduate level, Dean of the IAVS Durga Dutta Dhakal has resigned from his post. Because of the dispute, the entrance exam for B.Sc Agriculture, scheduled for last Friday, has been postponed.
According to the TU, the committee formed Thursday, and coordinated by Dr. Ashok Koirala, assistant dean at the Faculty of Science, will see if students from the CTEVT should be allowed to study at the graduate level in Agriculture and Veterinary Science.
After a delegation of students from the IAVS submitted a memorandum Thursday to the Central Office at the TU, demanding that only students pursuing pure science be allowed to sit for the entrance examination, the TU decided to form a committee to look into the problem.
Issuing an order, the Supreme Court had recently permitted the students from the CTEVT to join the IAVS only through legal procedure.
However, Narayan Timilsina, a member of the delegation, blamed the dean of the IAVS for allowing the students to sit for the entrance exams without following the legal procedure. “The dean had decided on his own,” he said.
As per the facts and findings of the report, the problem will be settled through legal procedure, said a top official at the TU.
